How I Lost My Hair - My Journey to Founding TeachBuddy AI

Hello everyone,

I know the title may sound a little misleading, but I’d like to share with you the story behind the inception of TeachBuddy AI and my journey in the field of education and technology. You will definitely understand how relevant the title is.

The Beginning: From Developer to Educator

After earning my Bachelor's Degree from the University of Greenwich, UK, I started my career as a web app developer at a higher education college in the UK. My passion for teaching soon led me to take on the role of an instructor for computer programming and other computing-related modules at the same college. Thanks to my hands-on experience, I quickly formed an amazing bond with my students and truly enjoyed the process of sharing knowledge.

The Overwhelming Reality of Teaching

As fulfilling as teaching was, the reality of formal documentation requirements like lesson planning began to dawn on me. While these practices were essential for delivering effective lessons, the amount of repeated documentation, coupled with actual teaching and other responsibilities, became overwhelming. Coincidentally, this was also the time when I started losing my hair, although genetics probably played a big part in that too! However, the stresses of teaching certainly didn’t help.

The Birth of an Idea

As a computer programmer, I was always on the lookout for ways to make life easier for myself and other teachers facing similar challenges—not the hair loss, but the documentation problem. I noticed that documentation requirements were becoming increasingly burdensome for teachers globally. The combination of these stresses and other factors was contributing to alarmingly high attrition rates among teachers in both developed and underdeveloped regions.

Enter Generative AI

Fast forward to 2022/2023, the boom in Generative AI, particularly GPT, caught my attention. I could instantly relate to the problems teachers were facing and saw how many of these issues could be addressed using Generative AI. I started working on training teachers on Gen AI tools tailored for educators.

The Birth of TeachBuddy AI

Soon, I realized that while existing tools were great, most lacked the level of personalization needed to understand classroom dynamics and create resources that teachers could actually implement. This realization led to the birth of TeachBuddy AI, a platform designed to create personalized resources for teachers, helping them manage their documentation needs more efficiently and effectively.

Our Mission

TeachBuddy AI aims to alleviate the documentation burden from teachers, allowing them to focus more on what they love—teaching. By providing personalized resources, we strive to make teaching a less stressful and more rewarding profession.
